10th Green Economy Conference

The world, shaken by the disasters which we have experienced as a result of the climate crisis, faced a global health crisis caused by Covid-19 in 2020. The pandemic has dramatically revealed the ecological and administrative crises we are in, especially the fragility in the healthcare system and economy. The whole world has directly experienced the incompetencies of the health system, the fragility of the economy and its negative consequences; The common reason behind the climate crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic is the fact that our production-consumption-political structures are incompatible with nature. We will not be able to survive the climate crisis, the Covid-19 epidemic, or similar crises by intervening so much in nature and wildlife.

Many countries, including Turkey, have been continuing their way of so-called heroic and short term policy making instead of forming consistent policies which promote social justice and rights of nature. Under the conditions of quarantine, where unemployment and poverty reached their peak, citizenship rights such as right to adequate housing, access to clean water and food, healthy and accessible green spaces, universal basic income took their place in the list of basic needs for all people. The “normal” we have experienced until today has become questioned and more people have begun to voice the demand for “another world”.

At the Green Economy Conference, which we celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, we will discuss the economic, social and ecological effects of climate and Covid-19 crises. We will assess the devastating effects of the Covid-19 crisis on gender equality, global trade, production and consumption structures. We will discuss the alternatives the Green New Deal offers to meet these demands and the mechanisms it proposes to make life on earth more resilient.

As the Green Thought Association, we invite you to learn, think and act together at the 10th Green Economy Conference, which we will jointly organize with the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
