THE CLOSING MEETING FOR THE “GREEN CLIMATE, GREEN MUNICIPALITY PROJECT” TOOK PLACE IN BORNOVA

The closing meeting for the project Green Climate, Green Municipaliry took place in the Dramalılar village in Bornova. The outputs of the one year long project were presented by Bornova Municipality External Affairs Manager Başak Turhan and Project Coordinator Sevil Turan at the opening of the meeting. The project was executed within the frame of the Capacity Building in the Field of Climate Change in Turkey Grant Scheme, which is jointly financed by the Republic of Turkey and the European Union.

Within the scope of the project, various studies were conducted, aimed at capacity building about the models and policies of climate change adaptation and mitigation. With the purpose of capacity building for local actors and activists; three Climate Schools in Bornova, a well-attended partner meeting in July and various training studies were prepared and conducted. Detailed information of the programme was shared with the citizens of Bornova on the web site of Bornova Municipality.

A climate action plan specific to the Bornova Municipality was prepared by the partners, and was shared with the participants.

Individual and community based electricity generation from solar energy systems manual in İzmir was also shared with the participants. This prepared manual aimed to ease the transition of individuals and communities to renewable energy.

At the end of the opening speech, a video about the visit to the solar power plant of the Bornova Municipality and the introduction video of the project were watched.

After the opening speeches, Semra Cerit Mazlum, an academic from Marmara University presentated on Climate Change and Local Governments.

PhD student from the Instute of Solar Energy in Ege University Fırat Aydın presented a topic about climate change and the role of cities.

Sustainability and Business Development Specialist Kardelen Afrodit Adsal talked about the role of renewable energy in our daily lives and what we can do against climate change on individual level.

The last speech of the event was delivered by Oral Kaya, the chairman of the Troya Environment Association. Kaya updated us on news about local municipalities and energy co-operatives.

The event was concluded with the acknowledgement speech by Bornova Municipal Councillor Öget Nevin Cöcen.
