Renewable energy cooperatives met in Çanakkale

Newly formed renewable energy cooperatives came together to share their experiences on 15 October in Çanakkale  within the scope of the “Face the Sun at Work” project. A project conducted by the Green Though Association, financed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security Development of Human Capital Program, and supported by İŞKUR (Employment Agency of Turkey).

Sparked in the 2000s, renewable energy sources such as wind and solar become quite popular among the other s through their productivity and easy installation. Such clean energy plants are extremely important for our country because the potential energy production from renewables is enormous and Çanakkale, as one can guess by the number of renewable energy installations, might become a leading city in renewables.

With recent changes in regulations, communities are being encouraged to form renewable energy cooperative. Already nearly 10 cooperatives have been formed.  

As a result of 6 months of meticulous work, agricultural development cooperatives in Çanakkale also participated to reunion beside renewable energy cooperatives. Municipalities which are taking steps on renewables, such as Nilüfer, Edremit, Denizli Bozkurt, Konya Hadim, Kepez and Çanakkale participated to meeting in presidentiel level and, also, Melih Toprak from the General Directorate of Cooperatives was present.

Technical and legal barriers against cooperatives and cooperation between cooperatives and municipalities were discussed and solutions were proposed

Findings from this meeting has preparatory importance for the reunion, which will be organised by General Directorate of Cooperatives on the 26th of October.

Synergy between cooperativism which has a long history in our country and renewable energy might bring a new breath of fresh air to the competition between energy resources…
